Conditions for Using the National Library and Archive of I.R. Iran

  1. The National Library is a part of the national and cultural heritage of the country, and its preservation is the responsibility of all. Therefore, actions such as damaging furniture, harming books and library materials, marking or writing in materials, inserting items like pens between pages, disrupting computer systems, or similar acts, will result in the cancellation of membership and legal action.
  2. The library’s collection, except for some public library materials, is only for use within the study halls and is not available for loan outside the library.
  3. The books in each hall are designated specifically for the study within that hall. Moving books and journals between floors and halls is prohibited.
  4. Library membership cards are for the cardholder only. Any transfer or use of another person’s card (including scanning, copying, or xeroxing of the card) is prohibited.
  5. Library members may only access services by presenting their membership card.
  6. Complete adherence to Islamic clothing and the preservation of cultural, religious, and social decorum within the library and study halls is mandatory.
  7. Smoking is strictly prohibited inside the building and on the library area.
  8. Silence is essential for study and research. Maintaining silence in the entrance hall and study halls is required.
  9. The use of mobile phones is prohibited in the entrance hall and study halls. Phones must be deposited with security upon entering.
  10. Bringing any kind of food, drinks, and snacks into the entrance hall and study halls is prohibited. Please visit the library’s cafe for eating and drinking.
  11. Bringing bags, books, notebooks, markers, or any personal items into the study halls is prohibited. Personal books and notes must be handed over to security.
  12. Visitors to the study halls may bring only a pencil, a few sheets of blank paper, and a personal computer (with prior coordination with the relevant authorities).
  13. Visitors to the public study hall may bring one book and up to 40 sheets of notes (with prior coordination with the relevant authorities).
  14. Any copying and photographing of library materials without permission is prohibited.
  15. Accompanying persons are not allowed into the library, except for individuals with disabilities and the blind.
  16. Excessive movement and gathering in the entrance hall and study halls is prohibited.
  17. Books and materials left on the study tables without the presence of the member (for a maximum of 30 minutes) will be collected by the hall staff and returned to the repositories.
  18. Taking books and other library materials outside the library is prohibited and will result in membership cancellation and legal consequences.
  19. Failure to comply with library regulations will result in membership cancellation, and the violation will be reported to the member’s family and the referring institution. The violation will also be forwarded to the legal authorities for further action.
