Buildings and Access Paths to the Organization

This building is designed and constructed in a way that, in addition to administration, support units, and parking, it accommodates eight important and specialized centers for librarianship, as well as collections of reference and non-reference books, manuscripts, rare books, and non-book materials. It is also capable of adapting the changes in the field of technology, particularly information technology.

The new building also enables the specialized libraries to communicate directly and interactively. The new National Library building has a total area of 97,000 square meters, with eight units planned within it.

Under normal conditions, the building can hold 4 million volumes, and with the use of compact shelving, it can accommodate up to 7 million volumes of books and periodicals.

The necessary spaces for the National Library’s activities have been categorized, and eight are included in the building’s structural plan. These units represent the spatial division of the library, grouped by activity type, and should be connected architecturally:

Unit 1: Public Services, with a floor area of 7,410 square meters.

Unit 2: Research Library, with a floor area of 16,000 square meters.

Unit 3: Operational Support Services, with a floor area of 4,560 square meters.

Unit 4: Administrative Services for Machine and Special Employees Facilities, with a floor area of 7,960 square meters.

Unit 5: Preservation Services, with a floor area of 7,130 square meters.

Unit 6: Closed Repository, with a floor area of 20,000 square meters.

Unit 7: Islamology-Iranology Research Center, for 1,150 users, with a floor area of 2080 square meters.

Unit 8: Parking Facilities, with a floor area of 7,000 square meters.
